Travelers: There is SO MUCH information to share about the "treasures" of Florence.
Let's start with this:
Fresco (plural either frescos or frescoes) is any of several related mural paintings types, done on plaster on walls or ceilings. The word fresco comes from the Italian word affresco [afˈfresːko] which derives from the Latin word for "fresh". Frescoes were often made during the Renaissance and other early time periods.

Think of Michelangelo! Think of Leonardo da Vinci! Think of Raphael! Think of Donatello!
(No, not the Ninja Turtles - the Renaissance painters!)
I think it is so interesting how Florence was the center on Medieval society and it was one of the wealthiest cities! I always remembered my mom talking to me about Raphael, and i definitely thought it was the ninja turtle!!!
ReplyDeleteAfter researching about Florence I've learned that this city has been through a lot! The City of Florence began by the Romans but shortly after it became a city The Roman Empire crumbled to the Barbarian conquerors from Europe. When this happened Florence went into a Dark Age and lasted nearly 1400 years. After the Dark Age Florence was mistakenly ruled my two people, Pope leo the 3rd and Holy Roman Emperor. This did not work well, many people were killed. Then the Medici family came to power. During this period Florence florished! The population rose and many new things were invented. After this family came to power art also became very popular! I'm very excited to go to this city and see some of the art that was created so long ago!
